Serb waits on work permit

Wigan have confirmed they have agreed a loan deal for Sporting Lisbon goalkeeper Vladimir Stojkovic. Sporting revealed earlier this week that Stojkovic was poised to join the Premier League club on loan when the transfer window reopens. Wigan have now admitted a deal is close to completion with the move subject to the Serbian international gaining a work permit. Latics boss Roberto Martinez has moved to bring in Stojkovic to provide cover for injury-prone Chris Kirkland and veteran Mike Pollitt. Meanwhile, Ben Watson has returned to Wigan following the completion of his loan deal at QPR. The 24-year-old played 16 times for the Rs and scored two goals against Newcastle and Barnsley back in September. The midfielder was also dismissed twice in succession with a red card in the defeat to Swansea and then in the victory over Reading at Loftus Road on his return from suspension.
