Blackwell eases defensive worries by signing Finland international

Sheffield United boss Kevin Blackwell has eased his defensive concerns by signing Fulham's Finland international Toni Kallio on loan. Kallio has not made a first-team appearance for Fulham this season and has struggled to make an impact since moving to Craven Cottage in 2008. He has now secured a move to Bramall Lane until 23rd December and he could be involved in Saturday's Championship trip to Bristol City. Blackwell told the club's official website: "He is a big, strong player and the reports we have had on him playing for Fulham reserves suggest that he has done quite well." The 31-year-old, who can play at centre-half or left-back, is the second loan signing of the day for the Blades after goalkeeper Carl Ikeme joined from Wolves. Blades chief Blackwell had been keen to improve his defensive options, with Andrew Davies shortly returning to Stoke City and doubts persisting over the future of Newcastle target Matt Kilgallon.
