Former Chelsea defender feels selection consistency is key

Wigan captain Mario Melchiot believes his former club Chelsea are benefiting from the settled selections of manager Carlo Ancelotti. The ex-Blues defender faces his old side on Saturday when the current Premier League leaders travel to the DW Stadium. Melchiot, who left Chelsea in 2004, is expecting a difficult afternoon when Ancelotti's troops arrive in the North West and he has praised the Italian's impact. The Latics skipper believes the Blues boss, who arrived in the summer, is taking advantage of established players by maintaining a regular backbone to his first XI. When asked about Ancelotti's Chelsea, Melchiot told Sky Sports News: "It is really impressive. They play really well and look really good. "But on the other hand, there are not so many changes in the team anymore. So that makes the team tick a little bit better. "If you keep changing it all the time, sometimes it becomes harder because you always have to start from the beginning. "I think now he has a group that has been there for a while. Sometimes that makes it more comfortable for people to be around each other and to play with each other."
