Fraizer Campbell's father believes the opportunity to join Sunderland was too good to refuse.
Hull City were leading the chase for the Manchester United striker after agreeing a fee for his services last month.
However, The Black Cats pipped Tigers boss Phil Brown to his signature after completing a deal, which could rise to £6million, last week.
Campbell's father Keith has confirmed Hull City were in the running, but that Sunderland was the bigger club and better opportunity.
"There was interest from Hull, but Sunderland is a massive club," Campbell's father told the Daily Mirror.
"It was just too good an opportunity to turn down."
