Jermaine Pennant is close to completing a move to Real Zaragoza after passing a medical.
The 26-year-old is expected to put pen-to-paper on a three-year deal on Friday.
Pennant spent five months on loan with Portsmouth at the end of last season after falling out of favour at Liverpool
With his contract at Anfield ending in the summer, he was said to be keen on a switch overseas and was linked with a move to Real Madrid earlier this year.
However, he is now set to join up with the Spanish side's newly-promoted rivals by the end of the week.
Pennant becomes Zaragoza's first signing of the summer and joins for nothing on a three-year deal.
He told the club's official website: "I wanted to come to Spain and I had offers from important teams in Europe but joined Real Zaragoza.
"I really want to get started and do well in the league."
Pennant made 14 appearances for Pompey during his loan stint last term having figured on only four occasions in a frustrating spell for Liverpool.
