Nick Barmby has urged Fraizer Campbell to return to Hull City for a second spell, claiming such a move would 'benefit everyone'.
The Tigers have agreed a £6million fee with Manchester United for the striker's services but a transfer has yet to be finalised and a number of other clubs are interested.
Barmby hopes Hull will have the edge as Campbell spent the 2007/8 campaign on loan at the KC Stadium, helping Phil Brown's men win promotion to the Premier League.
"I'm sure Fraizer would benefit from coming here, but again, the final decision will be up to him," Barmby told the Hull Daily Mail.
"The good thing is that Fraizer knows the club inside out, he loved every minute of it here.
"He earned that. Fans aren't daft, they know when you're not giving it your all and they let you know about it.
"But with Fraizer he put his heart and soul into his time here. He scored some great goals for us but his work-rate was superb and we need that as a team.
"I'm sure a move here would benefit everyone."
Campbell was loaned out to Tottenham last season but had few opportunities to impress and Barmby believes his main concern now will be getting regular football.
"He just needs to go and play football now," said the midfielder.
"He had his grounding at Manchester United. Unfortunately it didn't work out for him at Spurs and now he needs regular football.
"He knows this club and I'm sure that means a lot but there will be interest from other clubs."
