Italian ready to shun Juve and fight for place

Andrea Dossena has denied wanting to leave Liverpool and says he is happy to fight for his Anfield place. It had been thought the former Udinese left-back was looking to leave after failing to secure regular first-team football in his debut season in the Premier League. The £7million signing made just 12 league starts for The Reds last season, prompting talk of a potential move to Serie A giants Juventus. However, Dossena has denied stating he wants to leave the title challengers and is happy staying with Rafa Benitez's charges.

Stay

"I never said I wanted to go away from Liverpool," explained Dossena. "I'm happy in Liverpool and I want to stay. "Journalists say 'you come back to Italy'. I want to stay in Liverpool." Meanwhile, Dossena believes Liverpool will have a better chance of winning next year's Premier League title with champions Manchester United set to lose Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid. The Italian is confident the sides are well matched and that losing the Portugal superstar could be the difference between the teams come the end of next season. "There's not a lot of difference between us and them," he continued. "And now Manchester United have lost Cristiano Ronaldo maybe that's better for us."
