Portsmouth defender Djimi Traore has confirmed his intention to agree a deal with Birmingham.

Defender optimistic of securing return to St Andrews

Portsmouth defender Djimi Traore has confirmed his intention to agree a permanent deal with Birmingham City. Traore is to leave Fratton Park on a free transfer in the summer and has received several offers from clubs in England and abroad. However, after spending the closing months of the season on loan at Birmingham, Traore is hoping to return to St Andrews. The former Liverpool stopper was restricted to just three appearances during his time on loan at Birmingham, but enjoyed his stint with Alex McLeish's side. The 29-year-old revealed talks are taking place with the promoted Blues and he is optimistic a deal can be reached.

Priority

"The discussions between my agent and the club are still going on and we are looking for the right deal," Traore told the Birmingham Mail. "Yes I'm keen to sign, I've had a few offers, but my main priority is just Birmingham. "Of course, I enjoyed playing for the club last season and I said to my agent to do everything he can to make sure that I join Birmingham. "Hopefully something will be completed over the next few weeks."
