Blackburn manager Sam Allardyce has confirmed David Dunn will play no part in the season run-in.
The midfielder is to have an operation on his Achilles and has been dogged by injuries throughout his career.
Dunn, who has made 17 appearances in all competitions for Rovers this season, has been carrying the niggle for the past few weeks, but Blackburn have decided that an operation would be better for the skilful midfielder.
"David has not been able to overcome the pain he has suffered in recent weeks," said Allardyce.
"So we have had to make the big decision to let him have an operation."
The news will come as a blow for Blackburn, who are also missing Roque Santa Cruz and Jason Roberts for this weekend's clash with Manchester City, as they attempt to avoid relegation from the Premier League.
Dunn will now miss Rovers' remaining away games against City and Chelsea and home ties with Portsmouth and West Brom.
