Injured Villa man could hang up his boots

Aston Villa's injured defender Martin Laursen has revealed he will announce whether he will continue playing next week. Laursen had appeared to put his injury woes behind him over recent seasons, but the Danish stopper has been unable to return to action since appearing against West Brom on 10th January. The 31-year-old has seen specialists recently in order to ascertain the extent of his latest knee problem, raising fears the former AC Milan man may have to hang up his boots. Laursen has admitted he has enjoyed every minute of life at Aston Villa and if he is forced to retire then he has numerous positives to take away from the Midlands outfit.

Decision

"My future will be decided by the end of next week," he told TV2. "It is strange on so many levels, but this is it. "I would love to play football since it has been going well for Villa, and for me personally, so of course I want to continue. "If it turns out that I have to stop playing, then I will be able to look back on a long career that I can be happy about."
