Martis and Bednar battling to be fit to face City

West Bromwich Albion duo Shelton Martis and Roman Bednar are struggling to be fit for the weekend's trip to Manchester City. Martis and Bednar missed last Saturday's 2-2 draw at Portsmouth due to injuries, while Gianni Zuiverloon picked up a knock in the game. Zuiverloon should be able to tackle City, but fellow Dutch defender Martis is unlikely to feature due to a groin problem. Czech Republic striker Bednar has a hamstring complaint and Baggies boss Tony Mowbray will assess the two players ahead of the weekend's fixture.

Nursing through

"Gianni isn't a major problem - I think he just cramped up," said Mowbray in the Birmingham Mail. "I don't think it'll be a problem. "But Shelton is injured and Roman is injured. "Shelton has got a groin problem which he's had for a little while, but we've been nursing him through. "He tweaked it on Thursday and failed a fitness test, so he didn't travel with us. Will it keep him out for longer? I don't know, but it's not a bad one. "He hasn't torn an abductor muscle or anything, but I've had groin injuiries in the past, so I don't think he'll train this week, but it's not a six-week job either. "Roman felt a little twinge in the reserve game last Monday. He came in and trained on Friday and felt it wasn't right. It was playing on his mind. "Ultimately he wasn't fit enough to travel. I don't know how bad it is, but we will wait and see how it develops."
