Wigan boss Steve Bruce is lining up a bid for Lille midfielder Rio Mavuba as a replacement for Wilson Palacios, according to reports in France.
The 25-year-old has been linked with a move to Manchester United in the past and has had another impressive season in France.
The former Bordeaux ace has been tagged the new Michael Essien in Ligue 1 and rumours are circulating that Bruce is set to make an offer.
The player is said to favour a move to the Premier League but he is happy to wait until the end of the season to resolve his career.
"I like the Premier League a lot, there is no better league and I like the physical contact," he said.
"People said I am built for the Premier League, let's wait until the end of the season.
"Lille is doing well at the moment so we might qualify for the Champions League so that will be a big thing, but let's wait at the end of the season."
