Former Liverpool defender out for the season

Espanyol full-back Steve Finnan is unlikely to play again this season after undergoing a knee operation. Finnan has endured an injury-hit time in Spain since joining Espanyol from Liverpool last summer. He has faced several spells on the sidelines with niggling muscle injuries, but has now damaged the meniscus in his right knee. The 32-year-old has undergone surgery on the problem and Espanyol expect the defender to be out for two to three months. Espanyol are now focusing on ensuring Finnan will be fit for the start of next term as he looks to make an impact in La Liga. Finnan is on a two-year contract with Espanyol, but came close to joining Hull City in January only for a medical to reportedly cause the deal to collapse.
