Everton are waiting to see if Victor Anichebe suffered any serious injury following the horror tackle from Newcastle's Kevin Nolan.
Anichebe was the victim of a shocking challenge from Nolan during Everton's goalless draw with Newcastle on Sunday.
The striker was forced to withdraw just before half-time following the lunge from Nolan which saw the Magpies midfielder red carded.
Everton sent Anichebe for a scan on his leg and they are hopeful that he has not suffered a knee injury.
"Victor is extremely sore all up his shin, the outside of his ankle and his knee," Everton head physio Mick Rathbone told the club's offical website.
"The shin is badly bruised obviously, it's swollen as well. Our concern is with the knee really.
"We think he's okay - you never know - but I think he's just about got away with it.
"He bent his knee so the strain came on the outside of the knee. It was difficult. There was no obvious significant injury to the shin."
