Russian happy to make debut but disappointed with draw

Andrey Arshavin has vowed to get fully fit as quickly as possible after being frustrated by Arsenal's goalless draw with Sunderland. The Russian made his eagerly anticipated debut at Emirates Stadium on Saturday and impressed Arsene Wenger as he 'showed glimpses of his quality'. He loved the experience of playing in the Premier League but admits his enjoyment was spoiled by the result. "I enjoyed my debut in front of so many spectators, but am disappointed we did not get the result," said the 27-year-old. "I think it was not so much of a problem for me on the pitch, but Sunderland played very defensively. All of their players stayed in the box. It was very difficult for us. "We tried to play for a goal and had chances, but we were not happy." Arshavin was substituted after an hour but he does not feel it will be too long before he is fully up to the pace of the English game. "I am doing everything I can to be fully fit as soon as possible," said Arshavin, who joined the Gunners from Zenit St Petersburg on transfer deadline day. "If I had played in the Russian Premier League, I think I would have been okay, but the English Premier League is a different speed - it is quicker."
