Martin O'Neill has insisted that Aston Villa have not received an offer for Nicky Shorey.
Shorey joined Villa from Reading last summer but he has struggled to command a regular place in the team.
The left-back has not started a Premier League game since early November and there has been speculation that he could move on this month.
Middlesbrough were understood to be interested but O'Neill maintains that no club has yet made a formal bid.
O'Neill feels he is short on numbers and does not want any of his players to leave with Villa challenging for a high finish in the Premier League and still alive in the Uefa Cup and the FA Cup.
"There has been no bids for Nicky Shorey," O'Neill declared.
"Nicky would like to play a bit more often but I cannot let people go at this moment.
"It is not as if we have a squad of 32 players. We have 24 and that includes three or four youngsters."
