Williams agrees contract extension

Middlesbrough starlet Rhys Williams has penned a new three-year deal before joining Burnley on loan. The Clarets have been long-term admirers of the Wales Under-21 international defender, who has only recently returned to training after a serious knee injury. Williams, who was called into John Toshack's senior squad earlier this season, was out of contract at the end of the season and a host of clubs, including Burnley, Cardiff and Swansea were looking to land him. However, 20-year-old Williams, who made his senior for Boro in the League Cup at the start of the season, is rated very highly by manager Gareth Southgate and has now been rewarded with a long-term deal. "He has signed a three-year deal," his agent Gary Williams told skysports.com. "We have also finalised a loan deal with Burnley." Williams will join the Clarets for a three-month period.
