Sunderland boss Ricky Sbragia has hailed Kenwyne Jones' goalscoring performance against Fulham.
The Black Cats manager heaped praise on the 24-year-old who celebrated his new four-year contract in style by scoring the only goal at the Stadium of Light.
The win moves Sunderland level on points with Fulham, steering them further clear of the drop zone with a five-point cushion.
Admitting his delight in Jones' decision to stay, Sbragia said the striker was key to Sunderland's success over the Cottagers.
"He's been playing really well and he's got his reward tonight," said the Black Cats boss.
"He didn't get a tremendous amount of service in the first half but he kept on going and he got the goal he deserved."
Sunderland dominated the first half against Fulham who appeared lacklustre throughout the game and lacking in inspiration.
Sbragia said he was pleased with his side's performance in the opening 45 minutes despite failing to break the deadlock early on.
"We went in at half-time really pleased to be level," he said. "Then we changed it slightly and we got the goal we needed.
"Overall we are really pleased."
