Newcastle boss Joe Kinnear has confirmed Geremi is in talks with Turkish side Besiktas.
Kinnear admits he had hoped the deal would have already been concluded but he is now waiting on news of the move.
The Cameroon international has been told by Kinnear that he is free to leave St James' Park, 18-months after he arrived at the club.
"He is talking to Besiktas at the moment," confirmed Kinnear.
"He is speaking to us at the same time, but I think he is trying to sort out some sort of contract there.
"Wednesday night, we thought the deal would have been completed, but it has dragged on a little bit and we are waiting to see what happens."
