Bolton boss Gary Megson has assured Nicky Hunt he still has a future at the club.
The long-serving full back elected to join Birmingham for a brief loan spell after falling down the pecking order at the Reebok Stadium.
Since the arrival of Iceland international Gretar Steinsson, Hunt has struggled to figure under Megson, forcing him to seek regular football elsewhere.
With Steinsson sidelined, though, the 25-year-old could have a chance of breaking through once again.
Insisting Hunt has always been key to Bolton's campaign, Megson said: "Nicky has never been out of the picture.
"He went to Birmingham purely and simply because he wanted to play some games.
"Reserve matches are not the same when you have been in the first team.
"The opportunity came for him to go down there but we had the option to recall him with 24 hours notice.
"We have done that because the squad has taken a bit of a hit through injuries and suspensions."
