Emanuel Pogatetz is 'very confident' he will soon reach an agreement on a new contract at Middlesbrough.
The Austrian defender has established himself as a key part of the Boro team since moving to the Riverside in 2005.
He currently has 18 months remaining on his current deal on Teesside and has repeatedly confirmed his wish to stay.
Pogatetz says talks over a new deal are progressing, and he is also hoping Boro keep hold of the likes of Stewart Downing and Tuncay Sanli.
"The most important thing is we keep our star players," said Pogatetz in the Daily Star Sunday.
"Secondly, we have to see if we have the funds to bring players in.
"We are very young and maybe lack a bit of experience, but I think, in the future, we will have a very good team.
"I have 18 months left on my contract and I'm in talks with the club. Hopefully, we will reach agreement and I'm very confident we will do so."
