Hull City boss Phil Brown believes Bernard Mendy's recent form is deserving of international recognition.
The versatile Frenchman has been invaluable to the Tigers in recent weeks, ably slotting in wherever he is required.
He was one of many to emerge with their reputations enhanced following Saturday's dramatic 2-2 draw at Liverpool and will be hoping to have earned himself an extended run in the side.
He certainly appears to have left a positive impression on his manager, as Brown has called for the 27-year-old to be given an opportunity to add to his three caps for France.
The last of those came over four years ago, during his time at Paris St Germain, but the long wait for a recall may come to end sooner than he thought.
Ability
"Bernard came here wanting to play international football, and if continues in the mode that he's in, he will play international football again, absolutely no doubt in my mind" Brown told the
Hull Daily Mail.
"He's got tremendous ability and tremendous pace, and that's why we brought him to Hull City.
"I didn't just bring him because I'd worked with him before during my time at Bolton.
"I recognised what I had worked with before and I wanted more.
"The pace side of things and his ability to run at people, combined with his defensive abilities, are all part and parcel of a very good player."
Fitness
Mendy has endured a torrid time with injuries since arriving at the KC Stadium over the summer, but Brown is backing the utility man to prove his worth over the coming months.
He said: "He missed a lot of pre-season and I don't care what anyone says, if that happens you are going to struggle.
"There's 95 per cent of your fitness that should be a given but it is that last five per cent that allows you to play 20 or 30 games on the bounce, is the bit that you miss.
"Bernard, especially with the advent of his injury, has had a stop-start Hull City career so far.
"But now I think that he's almost as fit as he's going to get without having that full pre-season."
