Toulouse are reported to have rebuffed an approach from Newcastle for midfield starlet Moussa Sissoko.
French sources suggest that Newcastle - through executive director Dennis Wise - have made an approach to the Pink City outfit for the 19-year-old.
Wise and his scouting team are understood to have been impressed with Sissoko - a combative midfielder.
The likes of Liverpool and Bolton scouted Sissoko during his days in Toulouse's youth side, but now he is a regular in their first team.
Sissoko only made his debut last year, but he has made a big impact in little over 12 months and has already earned a call-up to the French Under-21 squad.
Now Newcastle are believed to have asked Toulouse how much they wanted, but they were quick to inform the English side that they would want a huge figure to even consider letting him leave.
Toulouse now hope that is enough to have seen off any interest from across the Channel.
