United defender on the mend following ankle surgery

Wes Brown is hoping to return to the Manchester United squad in three to four weeks. The right-back has been sidelined since undergoing ankle surgery in November and will not travel to the Far East for the Fifa Club World Cup. He is happy with the progress he is making and believes he should be back in contention early in the new year. Asked about his recovery, Brown told Sky Sports News: "It is going fine. I am three weeks into it so I am back doing the gym work and hopefully in maybe three or four weeks I could be back in the squad. "I am feeling good. They are all going to Japan now so I get left on my own. "We have a good two weeks until Christmas and hopefully I get some good work in." Brown watched from the stands as Manchester United clinched top spot in UEFA Champions League Group E with a 2-2 draw against AaB Aalborg on Wednesday night. United won the competition last season and Brown is confident of repeating that success. He said: "It was an eventful game (against Aalborg) but we are into the start of the main bit now and we will all be fired up and ready for it. "We'll never say we're definitely going to win it but we've got the squad, we've got the players and we know what it takes to win it, so we are aiming high."
