Goalkeeper injures neck and back in domestic accident

Sunderland goalkeeper Darren Ward has been ruled out of action for a 'number of weeks' after injuring his neck and back in a domestic accident. The full extent of the 34-year-old's injury has yet to be established because he is not fit enough to undergo an assessment by Sunderland's medical team. But Black Cats manager Roy Keane fears Ward - who has been back-up for current No.1 Craig Gordon - could be facing a long period on the sidelines. "Wardy could be out for a number of weeks or even months," Keane told Sunderland's official website. "He basically had an accident at home and hurt his neck and back. "He can hardly move at this moment in time, so we've not been able to check him out." Marton Fulop is expected to replace Ward on the Sunderland bench for their Premier League clash with Wigan at the JJB Stadium on Saturday.
