Goalkeeper eyes pre-season return

Wolves goalkeeper Matt Murray is hoping to be back for pre-season after missing the entire 2007/08 campaign. Murray suffered a serious knee injury in training last August and underwent an extensive operation to repair the damaged ligament. He had hoped to return for the end of the Championship season but it was ultimately decided that he should not be risked. However, the 27-year-old has now given manager Mick McCarthy a major fitness boost by revealing that he should be able to compete with Wayne Hennessey and Carl Ikeme for a starting role when Wolves return to action. "I went to see the specialist on Tuesday of last week and he was really happy with it," Murray told the club's official website. "They took the tiniest bit of fluid off my knee but nothing serious. "I'll start running now and then it's just loads of plyometrics getting my spring back, and then hopefully doing a bit of handling again. "I'd like to be involved in pre-season as much as possible and I will do some extra maintenance myself to keep the legs strong, which is what you have to do after injuries like these."
