Cottagers' hero pays tribute to manager

Danny Murphy believes manager Roy Hodgson played a key role in Fulham miraculously staying up. The Cottagers' great escape was completed on the final day of the Premier League season courtesy of a 1-0 win at Portsmouth. It had looked like it might not be Fulham's day after taking nearly 74 minutes to score before Murphy guided home Jimmy Bullard's free-kick to snatch the win. Fulham finished the season with four wins from their final five games and Murphy believes the club must thank Hodgson for his role after succeeding Lawrie Sanchez.

"The manager has always stuck with us, he believed in us," explained Murphy. "He has done a great job and brought in new ideas. "I am still coming down after this result. We thought we'd left it too late, but it has been a hell of a few weeks. "The players were not performing. But we got there in the end."
