Midfielder not leaving in January window

Gary Megson is not looking to offload Bolton Wanderers midfielder Stelios Giannakopoulos in the January transfer window. Stelios has been linked with a move to Bolton's FA Cup third-round opponents Sheffield United after featuring only sporadically this season. The Greece international has not started a Premier League game this term, but came off the bench to score an injury-time winner against Derby County on Wednesday. His contract is up at the end of the season and, while Megson is not in a position to offer an extension, the Trotters managers wants to keep the 33-year-old for the time being.

Valuable

"At this moment he's a valuable member of the squad," said Megson. He added in the Daily Express: "Stelios has got a knack of being in the right place at the right time. "His contract is up at the end of the season, but given our position in the Premier League, it's making it difficult to look long term when we don't know what the short term is going to be. "As soon as we know that then we can start looking forward."
