Villa's England Under 21 star in demand

Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill has confirmed a number of clubs have expressed an interest in signing Gary Cahill on loan. A plethora of Championship clubs are believed to enquired about the availability of the England Under-21 international. The recent signing of Zat Knight has pushed Cahill further down the pecking order at Villa Park and O'Neill is considering loaning Cahill out so that he can get valuable first team action under his belt.

Possibility

"There's always the possibility [with] these things, but it is delicate because we still don't have the biggest squad out there," O'Neill told the club's official website. "But we still want the players to play some games, there's no doubt about that. There have been a number of teams who have enquired about Gary and I will give that consideration this week." Meanwhile, Patrik Berger is set to steps up his bid for fitness by featuring for the reserves on Tuesday. The classy midfielder has yet to feature this season because of a niggling hamstring strain, but he is now back in training. Former Liverpool star Berger admits it has been frustrating to miss the start of the new season after winning his place back in the side at the end of last term.
Frustrating
"It's been very frustrating for me. At first we thought the injury would only keep me out for a short while, but it has gone on and on," Berger noted. "The worst thing about it this has been that I did all the pre-season training, worked hard on my fitness and then suffered a setback. It was really bad timing. "On the other hand, there is still a lot of football to be played here this season. If this had happened in say March, my season would have been virtually over. "I just want to get back into action. Last season ended so well for me and I want to get back into contention for the first-team."
