Kelly and Pacheco must fight for place after signing new deals

Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson has challenged Martin Kelly and Daniel Pacheco to give him a selection headache after securing their services until 2014. Kelly, 20, and Pacheco, 19, recently penned extensions to their current deals after becoming regular squad players under Hodgson's guidance at Anfield. The former Fulham boss has now urged the youngsters to take the next step by holding down a regular starting berth. "I'm very pleased with the news," Hodgson told the club's official website. "I'm pleased they are staying and it's up to them to really push hard whenever they get a chance and make sure they get into the first team as quickly as possible. "I'm also pleased for both the players. They've done well with the chances they've been given and they are both working very hard in training." Hodgson, who took over from Rafa Benitez in the summer, also cited the club's desire to get their return for time and money spent on developing the pair. He added: "When you have got young quality players like them who you have invested time and money in then it's important to keep them at the club. "Otherwise, someone else gets the benefit of the investment you've put in. Not only money but in terms of your coaching of the players."
