Frenchman admits disappointing with Birmingham and Wigan

Wigan midfielder Olivier Kapo admits he has not lived up to his billing in English football since arriving in 2007. The 29-year-old left the DW Stadium for French Ligue 1 side Boulogne on loan earlier this month, after falling out of favour under boss Roberto Martinez. Steve Bruce first brought the Frenchman to English football with Birmingham in a £3million deal from Juventus and later signed him for the Latics after switching clubs himself. But with just one appearance for Wigan this term, his return to his homeland could signal the end of his stint in England and he admits he let himself down. "I expected much more from myself," conceded the former Auxerre and Monaco winger. "At a certain time, I believed I would make a name for myself, but maybe I was not hungry enough as when I was in Auxerre. "I regret a lot some of my choices. If I could do it again, I would take another way. Anyway, I want to show I can be back to my best level at Boulogne." The former France international, who has also played in Spain with Levante, also admits to having made bad decisions in the past, with a series of run-ins with managers earning him a soured reputation. "My biggest mistake was Levante. I didn't listen to anyone. I had the opportunity to discover La Liga. I could have stayed at Juventus," revealed the Frenchman. "My foul temper prevented me from signing at Atletico Madrid, because I had a bust up with Levante's coach. "I joined Birmingham, where I achieved six good months. Then, I have been labelled as a reveller. "Last season at Wigan, Steve Bruce warned me: 'You will not play anymore'." Kapo admits he could have sat on the Wigan bench picking up his healthy wage but preferred instead to reignite his career in his homeland. "I would have stayed in England to earn a good living. But I am at Boulogne to show I am not dead, I have desire to help the club achieve salvation."
