Peter Ridsdale has confirmed that Cardiff are interested in bringing Derby striker Robert Earnshaw back to the club.
Earnshaw started his career at Cardiff and spent seven years at Ninian Park before leaving to join West Brom in 2004.
He is now at Derby but has started just two games this season and admitted earlier this week he would be open to a return to the Welsh club.
Rams manager Paul Jewell has insisted that Earnshaw will not be leaving Pride Park on loan as he seeks to keep all his players for the relegation battle ahead.
Cardiff could now be set to test Jewell's resolve, although chairman Ridsdale admits they have yet to make a firm offer.
"We made an inquiry, but that's all," Ridsdale told the South Wales Echo.
"We must see how things develop and go from there."
