Claudio Ranieri says Mohamed Sissoko is a 'great player' after Juventus were linked with a renewed bid for the Liverpool midfielder.
The Mali international has been a long-term target of Juventus, with reports claiming a January offer is in the pipeline.
Sissoko has struggled for regular football at Anfield this season and has started just six games in the Premier League.
Juve coach Ranieri worked with the 22-year-old at Valencia, who Sissoko left for Liverpool in a £5.6million deal in 2005.
Though he did not confirm he would be bidding for the gangly midfielder, Ranieri acknowledged his admiration of the player's ability.
"I had the pleasure to coach him at Valencia and I like him a lot," Ranieri told Italian reporters in Malta.
"I know him very well. He is a great player."
Ranieri is keen to reinforce his midfield in January, having been disappointed by the contributions of Tiago and Sergio Almiron.
