The scout reports...

After making his senior debut for Newport County aged just 16 in September, we take a close look at Regan Poole, who had a recent trial with Manchester United.

The Cardiff-born defender started in Newport’s 0-0 draw with Shrewsbury having already trained with the 20-time top flight Champions at their state-of-the-art training facilities.

Sky Bet Championship side Fulham also hosted Poole earlier in the season, but it is United that are reportedly set to make a move for him.

The talented teenage defender caught the eye of United scouts as he captained the Exiles’ under-18s side in the Football League Youth Alliance in August.

He was also fortunate to be around the club when the Radamel Falcao deal was completed, and cannot fail to have been impressed with the star-studded players he encountered while with United's U21s.

Poole only signed as a scholar for Newport in June, and the young centre-back’s rise meteoric development has not gone unnoticed on the international front, with Wales U17s putting him on the standby list for their upcoming qualifiers.

Unless there are injuries to current personnel, Poole will not feature against Russia and Montegro later this month, but to be simply considered so early in his fledgling career is testament to his abilities.

Accomplished on the ball, Poole relies a great deal on his athleticism, and it is his ability to cover ground quickly that is thought to have initially attracted potential suitors.

The 16-year-old has also been commended for his aerial ability, possessing a leap that many a defender would certainly envy.

Tackling is part and parcel of a centre-back’s role, but Poole’s strength in the challenge, for one so young, has also won many plaudits.

Newport boss Justin Edinburgh has insisted that he is happy to aid the development of Poole, and will not stand in his way should United or another bigger club come calling, which if he continues his rapid progress, cannot be too far away.

The scout says...

An outstanding prospect, who has developed in a very short space of time. Very much one to watch and already has Manchester United considering a bid.
