Sir Alex Ferguson: Has won 49 trophies as a manager

Manchester United's 2012-13 title triumph means Sir Alex Ferguson has now won a staggering 49 trophies in his stellar managerial career, dating back to a Scottish First Division success with St Mirren in 1977.

Ferguson could complete the half-century in next season's Community Shield, with Premier League champions Manchester United set to meet either Manchester City or Wigan at Wembley on August 11.

Here, Sky Sports picks out five of Britain's most successful manager's greatest trophy triumphs.

1979-80 - Scottish Premier League

Arguably the finest sustained achievement of Ferguson's entire career was splitting the Old Firm when he was at Aberdeen. This was the first of three titles with the Dons, as they edged Celtic out by a point.

1982-83 - European Cup Winners' Cup

A proud night for Ferguson as he wins his first European trophy, beating Bayern Munich on the way to a final meeting with the mighty Real Madrid. Aberdeen won 2-1 in Gothenburg, with John Hewitt scoring the winner in extra-time.

1989-90 - FA Cup

The trophy that paved the way for so much glory. With his job on the line, Ferguson steered United to the FA Cup final. After a six-goal thriller with Crystal Palace, United eventually took the trophy when Lee Martin scored the only goal in the replay.

1992-93 - Premier League

Twenty six years after the Red Devils' last championship, Ferguson delivered the prize he had been brought south for. Two late headed Steve Bruce goals against Sheffield Wednesday are the indelible image. Ferguson was actually on the golf course when United won it, as Oldham defeated nearest challengers Aston Villa.

1998-99 - Champions League

If you are going to win the biggest prize, you might as well do it in the most improbable manner. Injury time goals from Teddy Sheringham and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer left Bayern Munich stunned and provided what is still the crowning glory of Ferguson's career.
