Watch highlights from when Arsenal played Bayern in the last 16 of the Champions League in 2005.

Arsenal are preparing to go head-to-head with European heavyweights Bayern Munich in the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League, with the first leg at Emirates Stadium looming on Tuesday. Arsene Wenger's men will bid to keep their European dream alive against the Bundesliga giants, who so narrowly missed out on the trophy to Chelsea in the final on home soil last year. It will not be the first time the Gunners have faced the four-time European champions, having last gone up against them in the first knockout phase of the 2004-05 competition. That encounter stretched over a dramatic two legs as Bayern secured a 3-2 aggregate win. Claudio Pizzaro was the star of the show for the German side in the first leg in Munich as he scored twice, while also having a hand in Hasan Salihamidzic's third. The hosts could have opened an even more emphatic lead had Torsten Frings not squandered a glaring opportunity when he somehow slipped the ball wide, with some supporters thinking it had gone in as it rippled the side netting. Kolo Toure, now at Manchester City, pulled one back late on for Arsenal to give them a glimmer of hope heading into the second leg at Highbury. That clash saw Gunners legend Thierry Henry keep Arsenal in it as he netted a second-half stunner. But any comeback was not to be as Bayern held on for their aggregate victory to advance to the quarter-finals. Look back on that encounter in our highlights video as Arsenal prepare to avoid a repeat on Tuesday.
