FL Team of the Week

Image: Turner: Was among the goals, as Preston saw off Notts County

Skysports.com selects the best of the bunch from the latest round of Football League fixtures.

Team of the week

Iain Turner - Preston North End
There was only ever one contender for the number one jersey this week, with it impossible to overlook Turner following his heroics on Saturday. It is not often goalkeepers get their name on the scoresheet, so when they do their achievements should be recognised. Turner was among the goals for Preston this weekend, so he gets the nod. The former Everton man found the target in a 2-0 win over Notts County, with a hopeful lump forward catching opposite number Stuart Nelson off guard as the ball bounced over his head and into the back of the net.
Shaun Brisley - Macclesfield Town
AFC Wimbledon were brought back to earth with a bump in their latest outing, as Macclesfield gave them a Football League lesson. The Dons have fared admirably since stepping up into League Two, but were hammered 4-0 by the Silkmen on Saturday. The hosts edged in front inside three minutes and never looked back. Brisley was the man to break the deadlock at Moss Rose and his early effort set the tone for what was to follow.
Martin Taylor - Watford
It has not been the easiest of openings to the 2011/12 campaign for Watford, with the Hornets still looking for their first three-point haul. They will, however, be able to take heart from their last performance, as they held Birmingham to a 2-2 draw. The Blues took the lead on two occasions at Vicarage Road, but were pegged back each time. Watford's second leveller came in the first minute of stoppage-time, with Taylor nodding home to leave his former employers cursing their luck.
Brian McLean - Preston North End
Preston's victory over Notts County has already been discussed, with Turner having stolen the headlines at Deepdale. It is, however, worth pointing out that the Lilywhites keeper was not the only man to catch the eye. Phil Brown's side were already one goal to the good when their shot-stopper found the target, with McLean having opened the scoring. The summer arrival from Falkirk was in the right place at the right time to nod home seven minutes from time, allowing him to open his goal account for the club.
Matt Heath - Colchester United
Colchester made light work of their weekend opponents, with unfortunate Oldham finding themselves on the wrong end of a hiding. The Us took the lead inside 60 seconds, with the Latics aware from that moment on that they could be in for a long afternoon. Two goals, one in the last minute of the first half and one in the first minute of the second, settled the game. There was, however, still time for a bit of gloss to be put on the scoreline and Heath provided that shine with a fourth for the Us on 56 minutes.
Robbie Brady - Hull City
Brady is the latest product of the Manchester United Academy system to be catching the eye at Hull City. The 19-year-old winger appears to have bags of potential, and is already looking at home on the Championship stage. A home date with Reading on Saturday was just his fifth outing for the Tigers, but he is now up and running on the goal front. The youngster grabbed the only goal of the game at the KC Stadium, with his 73rd minute effort ensuring the Royals left empty-handed.
Craig Noone - Brighton & Hove Albion
Things keep on getting better and better for Brighton, with a 2-0 victory over Peterborough taking them to the top of the Championship table. Gus Poyet's men only clambered into the second tier last term, but there are already signs that they could follow Norwich's lead and secure back-to-back promotions. Their success will not have been lost on Peterborough, as the Posh made the step up into the second tier alongside the Seagulls. They were no match for Brighton on Saturday, as Noone broke the deadlock 10 minutes in and Ryan Harley bagged a second just after the hour mark.
Andy Robinson - Tranmere Rovers
A bright start to the season has Tranmere well-placed among the League One frontrunners and they added another three points to their tally on Saturday. A trip to Brentford was safely negotiated by Rovers, as they left the capital with a 2-0 win. They held a narrow lead heading into the interval at Griffin Park, but made sure of the points inside the opening minutes of the second period. Experienced midfielder Robinson was the man to wrap up the win, as he netted his first goal of the campaign.
James Hanson - Bradford City
Peter Jackson's decision to quit his managerial post at Bradford just days before their meeting with Barnet could quite easily have disrupted the Bantams' plans. They could have been forgiven for putting in a mediocre display as uncertainty swept through the cub. Bradford's players displayed no signs that they were feeling sorry for themselves, though, as they swept to a 4-2 victory. Hanson grabbed a deadly double for the managerless Bantams and new boss Phil Parkinson will be looking for more of the same from the 23-year-old in the weeks to come.
Charlie Austin - Burnley
Injury restricted Austin to just a handful of appearances for Burnley last season, following a January switch from Swindon. He was unable to show the Clarets faithful what he is capable of, but he has more than made up for lost time this season. Austin has now netted four times in as many games in the Championship, firing him to the top of the scoring charts. His latest brace proved to be crucial to Burnley's cause, as it helped Eddie Howe's men a 2-1 victory away at Derby.
Lee Miller - Carlisle United
Carlisle fell a goal behind at Leyton Orient on Saturday, but displayed commendable fighting spirit to battle back and pick up an important win. The Cumbrians are unbeaten on their travels so far this term and helped to prolong that run with two second-half strikes. Miller proved to be the hero of the hour, as he bagged what proved to be a match-winning brace. His first arrived on 68 minutes and he pounced again three minutes from time to ensure that Carlisle would leave with the spoils.
