Carlisle have signed Jon-Paul McGovern after the midfielder was released from his contract at Swindon.

The 30-year-old has signed a two-year deal with the League One club. McGovern joined Swindon from MK Dons on deadline day in August 2007 and made over 150 appearances, scoring eight goals, for the Robins. "Jon-Paul is a good one for us because he brings a bit of strength and experience to the mix," said Carlisle boss Greg Abbott. "He can operate out wide or through the middle and will definitely add a bit of steel. He's lively, strong and a very good footballer. "It's a step in the right direction for us. He's one that we've known about for a long time and it's a really good signing for us."
