Burnley defender hoping to begin new season in style

Stephen Caldwell is hoping Burnley kick off the new season in style with victory against Sheffield Wednesday. Both sides are preparing for the opening day of the Championship and Caldwell knows the importance of getting off to a good start. The Clarets have snapped up the likes of Chris Eagles, Martin Paterson and Christian Kalvenes this summer and Caldwell believes it can be a successful season for Owen Coyle's side. "I'm looking forward to getting started," Caldwell told the Lancashire Evening Telegraph.

Victory

"I really hope we win because it gets you off to a great start and you can push on from there. But at the end of the day, it's about an overall season. "You can have a bad start and pick up, or you can fly at the start and hit a brick wall. It's really about getting that consistency. "We've improved, we've signed some good players, we've got a bigger squad from last season. "We're excited about the start of this season and we know that we're going to have to play at our maximum week in, week out to achieve success."
Possible retirement
Meanwhile, veteran striker Ade Akinbiyi, who once cost Leicester £5million, has hinted he may hang up his playing boots at the end of the season. "I've been talking about giving up next year, but I don't know what will happen. I'll see how my body feels," Akinbiyi said. "I won't drop down the divisions gradually, if I decide to call it a day it will be when I can't do the things I'm good at. I want to try and end on a high. "I've been more about using my strength and doing a lot of running and when you get older, it takes its toll sometimes. "I think I'm the sort of person who can play around 30 games now. I don't think I'll be able to play Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday, Tuesday."
