Sturrock wields the axe

Sheffield Wednesday have culled their ranks after releasing three players.

Sheffield Wednesday have culled their ranks after releasing three players and telling two others to search for new clubs.

Upon retaining the club's Championship status manager Paul Sturrock has wasted little time in assessing and dispensing with several members of his squad.

The talented but injury-prone Jon-Paul McGovern has been deemed surplus to requirements and has been shown the exit door at Hillsborough.

Joining him in experiencing a similar fate are out-of-contract duo Drissa Diallo and Richie Partridge, while Patrick Collins and Craig Rocastle have been informed to find alternative employment.

Meanwhile, Lee Bullen has verbally agreed to stay at the Yorkshire outfit for one more season.
