Celtic have signed defender Saidy Janko from Manchester United on a four-year deal, for an undisclosed fee.

The 19-year-old has failed to break into the first team squad at Old Trafford and spent part of last season playing for former Celtic manager Neil Lennon on loan at Bolton.

The Swiss right-back was signed by former United boss David Moyes from FC Zurich in 2013 and becomes Ronny Deila's second signing of the summer following the arrival of central defender Dedryck Boyata from Manchester City.

Boyata arrived at Celtic Park for £1m on four-year contract to replace Jason Denayer, who went back to the Etihad Stadium after a successful loan spell with the Scottish Premiership champions.

Celtic said in a statement on their official website: "Celtic Football Club can confirm that it has completed the signing of Saidy Janko from Manchester United on a four year contract, subject to receiving satisfactory medical results which should hopefully be with the Club tomorrow morning."

And Deila said of Janko: "He's a young player who we want to develop. He's a very talented full-back and I'm really looking forward to seeing him in training.

"He has to show himself in training and the road is there if he shows he's the best.

"He can play winger as well but his main position is full-back."
