Watford goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes thinks Roberto Firmino - who he played with at Hoffenheim - has all the attributes to impress in the Premier League.

Watford goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes has backed his former Hoffenheim team-mate Roberto Firmino to be a success at Liverpool.

The pair crossed paths for a short period while Gomes was on loan at the Bundesliga club from Tottenham and he saw enough to be convinced that Firmino can impress in the Premier League.

The former PSV keeper has warned that the Brazil No 11 may need some time to adapt but believes he has all the attributes to make his mark in the English top flight.

“He’s a talented player, I played with him at Hoffenheim for a few games. At that time he wasn’t there yet but I could see that he was going to become a very good player,” said Gomes.

“I believe he is a very good signing for Liverpool and I think he is capable of doing very well in the Premier League.

“Of course, the Premier League is difficult, he will need time to adapt because he is still young but he has everything to do very well in the Premier League.”

In terms of where Liverpool should use Firmino to make the most of his talent, Gomes feels that he is most adept at playing behind the striker.

“He’s a quality player, he can hold the ball well, he can pass the ball very well,” he added.

“I believe that No 10 is his best position, coming a little bit from the back because he has the quality to pass the ball and the quality to finish as well.”
