Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc says he expects Manchester United target Mats Hummels to remain at the club for next season.

United manager Louis van Gaal has been heavily linked with a move to sign the German international and speculation intensfied after the central defender revealed he was considering his future at the club.

The uncertainty over Hummels increased following manager Jurgen Klopp's decision to step down at the end of the season, but Dortmund have revealed they are keen to keep the World Cup winner at the Westfalenstadion.

Zorc said he had met with Hummels and his father Hermann, who is also his agent, in which there was a "clear consensus" that he would remain with the Bundesliga club.

He told German magazine Kicker: "It made sense that Mats was thinking about his future, but I always pointed out that we plan (for the future) with him."

Earlier this month Dortmund denied that United had made an approach about Hummels with Zorc saying: "As far as I know, Hummels's contract still runs until 2017. We did not receive any offer that we should think about."

Van Gaal, who has already agreed a deal to sign PSV forward Memphis Depay, has also been linked with Hummels' team-mate lkay Gundogan as he looks to strengthen his squad for an assault on the title next season.
