Johnson wants Barnsley belief

Barnsley could lack the self-belief to get them over the line in the play-off race, reckons boss Lee Johnson.

The Reds, who were denied an impressive win at League One leaders Bristol City by a late leveller in a 2-2 draw on Saturday, are unbeaten in nine games and are outside of the top six on goal difference. It is a remarkable rise for Johnson's men, who are yet to taste defeat under their new boss, given their plight after Danny Wilson's sacking. But Johnson is concerned his side might not realise how good they are. "It's about having confidence and belief, wins and points gives you belief," Johnson said. "Our players have to dig deep to find their belief because some of them are not quite sure where they sit in the market." Barnsley host Sheffield United in their next outing and know a win would further enhance their play-off chances. Johnson is adamant that if their attempts to reach the top six this season do ultimately falter, then they will go down fighting. "It's about us maintaining the desire, we have got to kick on," he added. "We have come from nowhere, up on the rails if you like. "If you're going to fail you might as well fail being bold, giving it a go. We don't want to fail with mediocrity."
