Robins: No Slocombe worries

Scunthorpe manager Mark Robins says the club are no nearer to agreeing a contract extension with goalkeeper Sam Slocombe.

The 26-year-old, who has not featured since January due to a broken arm, was offered terms earlier this year but a deal has yet to be sorted. Robins is not concerned by the lack of progress and hinted nothing will be finalised until the struggling League One side know which division they will be in next year. "Contractually we are still no further to making any announcements on that," Robins said. "He has to decide what it is he wants to do. "I am sure we will remain in dialogue and we will see how that pans out. He hasn't turned down an offer, we have been talking about things prior to his injury but the injury makes it very difficult. "We need to get some points on the board before we tie anybody down to anything." Slocombe is back in training following the two-month lay-off and could return before the end of the season. Robins added: "Sam is close to coming back, he is training. "Having said that he has to feel confident, it's a psychological thing as well as everything else. The recovery has gone well, he's worked hard as usual, he's a good lad is Sam."
