Atletico Madrid defender Joao Miranda was sent-off for catching Espanyol's Abraham Gonzalez with a dangerous flying elbow.
The first half of the La Liga clash was seemingly winding down to a low key conclusion until Miranda flew through the air at full speed and clashed with the Espanyol midfielder.
On first viewing it looked an accidental clash of heads as both physio teams ran on the pitch to see to the stricken players.
However, on second viewing it was clear to see that Miranda went into the challenge with his elbow and caught his opponent flush in the face at high speed.
When Miranda was finished recieving treatment, he was duly given the red card by the referee.
