Alexander lauds Fleetwood

Fleetwood boss Graham Alexander praised his players after seeing their play-off hopes boosted by a 2-1 win at Sheffield United.

All the goals came in the first half with Josh Morris and Nick Haughton putting the visitors in control before Matt Done reduced the arrears for the Blades. Alexander, whose side are 12th in the table but just two points shy of a top-six spot, said: "We're so pleased for the players. I thought they were superb. They showed great composure and discipline all the way through. "We scored two fantastic goals and it's a fantastic day for everyone connected with the club. To come to a giant like this in our first season in League One and get a victory is a fantastic day for us all. "We spoke about playing the game and not the crowd and the stadium. We had to play the opposition and it was a big day for focus and discipline. "We popped the ball about when we had to and defended when we had to. We had to dig in because we knew what was going to come in the second half. "I thought we were very disciplined and just played the game. We had to not dive in and give cheap free-kicks away. We showed great composure. "We know what a good player Josh (Morris) is and that's why we love having him with us. We know his technical qualities and his energy levels and it was a superb finish from him." Sheffield United manager Nigel Clough thinks his side are giving away goals too easily. He said: "We're not too disappointed with the performance, but we were chasing a two-goal deficit again and that's very difficult to do at any time. We've had to do it twice in the last three home games. "It's very simple - if you give goals away, you don't win games. We gave two away against Coventry and two away against Peterborough and two away today. That's six goals in the last three home games and you can't expect to win games. "Teams aren't carving us apart and they're not having lots of efforts against us. It's just the odd one we're not dealing with. "Today, Iain (Turner) has made an error. We stick with him; we've got no choice until our other goalkeeper Mark Howard is fit. He's been outstanding but then all of a sudden a couple of errors come at a time when we can't really afford it."
