Papiss Cisse ban will be major blow for Newcastle

Papiss Cisse

Newcastle United's Papiss Cisse has been handed a seven-game ban after accepting an FA charge for spitting at Manchester United's Jonny Evans in midweek.

And the stats show just how important Newcastle's star striker has been to the team this season.

Cisse has played 19 times in the Premier League for Newcastle this term and leads the club's scoring charts with 11 goals to his name, six more than any of his team-mates.

The frontman has found the back of the net on average every 92 minutes, an impressive scoring rate.

In contrast, fellow Newcastle striker Ayoze Perez has five goals - one every 326 minutes. Emmanuel Riviere and Adam Armstrong have no goals from a combined 20 Premier League appearances.

With Cisse in the team, Newcastle have recorded a win percentage of 36.8. However, that figure falls to just 22.2 per cent without the Senegal international in their line-up.

Similarly, the club have picked up 1.4 points per match on average with Cisse leading their line in this campaign, but that drops to only one point per game in the player’s absence.

All of which suggests Newcastle are likely to feel the absence of the 29-year-old attacker over the coming weeks now he has been suspended, with Everton, Arsenal, Sunderland, Liverpool, Tottenham, Swansea and Leicester to play.
