Mansfield Town have been fined by the Football League for fielding an unregistered player in their defeat to Exeter City.

Bermuda international utility player Reggie Lambe played in the 3-2 loss to Exeter on January 17.

The Football Disciplinary Commission has fined Mansfield £6,000, with £4,500 of that sum suspended for a period of 12 months with the club also being ordered to pay the costs.

A Mansfield spokesman said: “The club believes that we had a fair hearing by the Football Disciplinary Committee and the outcome reflects an honest administrative mistake made in mitigating circumstances.

“The club will not be appealing the decision and now considers the matter closed.”
