QPR boss Chris Ramsey delighted with form of winger Matt Phillips

QPR head coach Chris Ramsey says the good recent form of Matt Phillips has been a major plus for the relegation-threatened Premier League outfit.

The 23-year-old Scotland international has been in and out of the first team since arriving from Blackpool in August 2013.

But Ramsey, who has been placed in charge at Loftus Road until the end of the season, selected the winger to start the last two league games, at home to Southampton and away at Sunderland.

And Phillips rewarded his new boss with a promising display against the Saints before setting up both goals in a 2-0 win at the Stadium of Light, QPR’s first away win of the campaign.

Ramsey told the club’s website: “The good thing at the moment is that we have got Matty Phillips on fire. He had two assists the other night and we know that, if we provide chances, we always have a hope of slotting one.

“Our main thing is to play on the front foot and try and create as many chances as possible.”

QPR face a massive match at relegation rivals Hull on Saturday and are set to be without Leroy Fer, Richard Dunne and Nedum Onuoha.

But Ramsey said: “The players have got the bit between their teeth.

“We know Hull is going to be very difficult, as they have got some very good players, but we will prepare the best we can and go into it with the same attitude we did at Sunderland.

“We have got some injuries but one of the things I don’t want to do is say we have got this injury and that injury.

“You have to go there with a squad and prepare the squad the best you can. If you have to patch areas up, then you have to do that, but that is why you have a squad.

“It is not worth worrying about the injuries because you can’t do anything about them, except make the best of a bad situation.”
